Tips for “Shopping Smart” during Rush!

Rush (or “the first two weeks of classes”) is the busiest time of year at the Bookstore. It is a time when all registers are blazing to get you in and out of the Bookstore (and to your classes!) as quickly as possible. Here are some tips to help you “shop smart”!

Shop early!
Don’t wait until the first week of classes to get started! The week before classes start is the best time to shop because it is not as busy and you have a better choice of used books.

Shop outside the “peak hours”: Once classes begin, peak shopping times are during class breaks (i.e. 10:20am-10:30am, etc). Additionally, 12pm-1pm and 5pm-7pm are also among our busiest times. Shop outside these times if you can and you will definitely save yourself some time! We are also open as late as 8pm Mon-Thurs the first week of classes and on certain Saturdays (see “Store hours” for specific weekly hours). Better yet, buy your books from us online at your convenience for in-store pick-up or home delivery!

When buying your books, make sure you have your class schedule. This is necessary because it has the course name, course number, section number, and your instructor’s name. All these things are essential to ensure you are getting the correct book(s).

Have the ID you need: You must have a photo ID for credit card purchases, financial aid, selling back books (you must also have your student ID number for this as well), and to purchase certain software (you must have proof of enrollment for this as well). Make sure you have the proper ID before getting in line so you don't waste your valuable time.

Don’t be intimidated by the line! During rush there is almost always a line at the registers, but it moves quickly. Remember: There is only one line, but many cash registers, so you will be out of the store in no time! You will be amazed at how fast it goes!

Be prepared to “check your bag”: During "rush" and throughout the rest of the year, we must insist that you leave your backpacks and large bags in the "cubbies" at the front of the Bookstore before entering the store. Sometimes the spaces are all occupied, but you still cannot bring your bag inside, so leaving your bag outside with a friend that does not need to shop can get you in and out in a hurry!

We’re here to help! We have many employees on the sales floor in both the text and supply departments to assist you. If you need us, we’ll be here for you!

Don't rely on reaching us by phone or email. This is the busiest time of year and, try as we might, with all the people in the store, we simply cannot get to the phone and answer specific emails. To ensure timely service, visit us in person or order your books from us online.

Can I call the Bookstore or send an email and have you check for my books? Try as we might, with all the people in the store, we simply cannot get to the phone or answer specific emails. To ensure timely service, visit us in person or order your books from us online.
