Shopping at the Bookstore FAQs:
What is "rush"? Rush (or “the first two weeks of classes”) is the busiest time of year at the Bookstore. It is a time when all registers are blazing to get you in and out of the Bookstore (and to your classes!) as quickly as possible. Here are some tips to help you “shop smart”!
How early should I start my shopping? Don’t wait until the first week of classes to get started! The week before classes start is the best time to shop because it is not as busy and you have a better choice of used books.
When is the best time of the day to shop? Once classes begin, peak shopping times are during class breaks (i.e. 10:20am-10:30am, etc). Additionally, 12pm-1pm and 5pm-7pm are also among our busiest times. Shop outside these times if you can and you will definitely save yourself some time! We are also open as late as 8pm Mon-Thurs during the first week of classes and on some Saturdays (see “Store hours” for specific weekly hours). Better yet, buy your books from us online at your convenience for in-store pick-up or home delivery!
What information do I need to have with me to ensure I get the correct books? Please bring your class schedule printout with you. This is necessary because it has the course name, course number, section number, and your instructor’s name. All these things are essential to ensure you are getting the correct book(s).
What payment tenders do you accept? The Bookstore accepts cash, credit cards, debit cards, and financial aid tenders for payment. The Bookstore no longer accepts personal or business checks for payment.
What ID do I need to sell back books or make a purchase? If you plan on selling back books, you MUST have your student ID number and a photo ID. No exceptions. You must also have a photo ID for credit card purchases, financial aid, and to purchase certain software. Make sure you have the proper ID before getting in line so you don't waste your valuable time.
How long will I have to wait in line? During rush there is almost always a line at the registers, but it moves quickly. Remember: There is only one line, but 12 cash registers, so you will be out of the store in no time, usually no longer than 15 minutes! You will be amazed at how fast it goes!
Can I bring my backpack or large purse into the store? During "rush" and throughout the year, we insist that you check backpacks and large bags in the cubby spaces or at the backpack check station outside the Bookstore before entering the store. There is sometimes a line to drop off or pick up your pack, so leaving your bag outside with a friend that does not need to shop can save you some time! Also, please leave all beverages in the cubby spaces at the front of the store. Spilled liquids can be very damaging to books!
Are there people available to help me? We have many employees on the sales floor in both the text and supply departments to assist you. If you need us, we’ll be here for you!
Can I call the Bookstore or send an email and have you check for my books? Try as we might, with all the people in the store, we simply cannot get to the phone or answer specific emails. To ensure timely service, visit us in person or order your books from us online.
What if I need supplies after the Bookstore has closed? In order to provide increased access to the supplies students need (bluebooks, scantrons, pens, pencils, etc), the Bookstore has a vending machine in the Doyle Library (second floor, next to the copy and print room).
